My first time cooking this recipe was when I was engaged to P. I was living as a Paying Guest and had asked my roomies and house owners to have a taste of this dish. They let out a sigh, "He is one lucky man!!". 🙂
Time flew, I got married and it's been three years. Whoa! When my younger sister visitied us for the first time after my wedding, she demanded that I make this dish. She was floored by my Kohl Eyed Me blogwhere I posted few recipes long before. (Now, I've started this separate space).
And boy! She loved it! I know you would too. <3
Dragon Chicken is an Indo-Chinese dish served as a side dish to fried rice. It can also be served as a starter. This dish is slightly sweet and tangy but you can adjust the spice level to suit your taste.
Topped with fried cashews and the tangy taste from the ketchup is sure to make your stomach twirl.
Or why not have a bite of these flavorful juicy chicken chunks when you sip that Martini the next time? Try it out and let me know how it turns out.
Meanwhile, let me me find out how this dish got its name!
- 200 gms Boneless Chicken cut into bite-sized chunks
- 3 tablespoon Corn flour
- 1 egg white
- ½ teaspoon pepper powder
- ¼ teaspoon Soya sauce
- Salt to taste
- oil for deep frying
- 2 tablespoon oil
- 2 tablespoon Cashews
- 1 tablespoon Ginger Garlic paste
- 2 Red chillies slit
- ½ cup Spring onion white
- ½ cup Spring onion greens
- ¼ cup Capsicum cut into strips
- ¼ cup Carrot cut into strips
- ½ teaspoon Chilli sauce
- 2 tablespoon Tomato ketchup
- ½ tablespoon Soya sauce
- Salt to taste
- ½ teaspoon Sugar
- Dip the chicken chunks in batter and let it marinate for 10-15mins. Deep fry till golden brown. Remove the chicken strips and excess oil. P.S: Yes, you will be tempted to have the chicken now itself!! Who is stopping you!! You can (just like I did!! ) But, yes the end result is always the best! So, hold on…
- To the pan, add the chopped cashews and fry till brown.
- Add red chillies, ginger-garlic paste and spring onion whites. Saute.
- Add chopped capsicum and carrots. Saute in high flame. This will retain the crispiness of the vegetables.
- Add red chilly paste, soy sauce, tomato ketchup, salt, sugar and mix well.
- Cook for a couple of mins till sauce thickens. Add fried chicken and toss well in the sauce.
- Garnish with spring onion greens.
- Serve hot

One of the easiest Indo-Chinese chicken dishes to make. The vibrant red color of this dish is very appealing, it tastes delicious and can be made effortlessly.I am always in search of easy breezy recipe and so this recipe really fits my criteria. It’s easy and delicious. This dry and slightly spicy (you could alter the spice level accordingly) dish is just great for any kind of occasion. Dragon chicken could be served as a side dish or as a main dish and goes well with fried rice, plain rice, roti and parathas.
