Jeera Rice - Jeera Pulao

Jeera Rice

  • Total Time: 15 minutes


  • 1 cup basmati rice
  • 2 cups water
  • 1 tbsp cumin seeds / jeera
  • 1" cinnamon stick
  • 2 cardamon
  • 2 red chillies
  • 2 bay leaves
  • 2 tbsp ghee
  • a handful of finely chopped coriander leaves
  • Salt to taste


  1. Heat ghee in a pressure cooker and add the dry garam masalas.
  2. Saute for about ten seconds. And add cumin seeds.
  3. Saute for about ten seconds in medium flame.
  4. Add the washed rice and mix well. Add water and salt. Mix again.
  5. Cover and cook in medium flame until the first whistle is blown.
  6. Switch off the flame and wait till the pressure is release.
  7. Open the lid, fluff the rice with a fork and add coriander leaves. Fluff again.
  8. Serve hot.


For variation, you can add half a cup of finely sliced onions after sauteing the cumin seeds. Brown them a little and then add the washed rice.
