Description

Matar Paneer is a delicious mix of paneer pieces and green peas simmered in a mildly spicy onion-tomato gravy.


Ingredients

  • Fresh or frozen green peas - 1/2 cup
  • Paneer , cubed 200 gm
  • Oil - 4 tbsp
  • Ginger - 1 tsp finely chopped
  • Garlic - 1 tbsp finely chopped
  • Onion - 3 , roughly chopped
  • Tomatoes - 2, roughly chopped
  • Cumin seeds - 1 tsp
  • Turmeric powder - 1/2 tsp
  • Chilli powder - 1 tsp
  • Cumin powder - 1/2 tsp
  • Coriander powder - 1 tsp
  • Water - 1 cup
  • Whisked yogurt - 1/2 cup
  • Garam masala powder - 1/4 tsp
  • Salt - to taste
  • Coriander leaves - to garnish

Instructions

  1. In a pan, heat 2 tbsp of oil and add ginger, garlic and onion.
  2. Add little salt and saute till brown. Add tomato and cook until it is mushy.
  3. Remove and cool. Grind to a fine paste. Do not add water.
  4. In the same pan heat 2 tbsp of oil and add cumin seeds.
  5. When it begins to splutter, add turmeric powder and red chilli powder. Mix well. Heat should be in low flame when you roast masalas.
  6. Increase the heat to medium high. Add the grind onion-tomato mix and cook for about 3 mins.
  7. Add coriander powder and cumin powder. Mix well.
  8. Add 1/2 cup of water. Mix and cook for about 3 mins.
  9. Reduce the flame to low, add whisked yogurt and stir well. This will ensure that the yogurt doesn't curdle.
  10. Add 1/2 cup of water, peas and paneer cubes. Add salt, mix well and cook for about 5mins.
  11. Add garam masala powder, mix and cook further for a couple of minutes.
  12. Garnish with coriander leaves and serve hot.
