Description
Matar Paneer is a delicious mix of paneer pieces and green peas simmered in a mildly spicy onion-tomato gravy.
Ingredients
- Fresh or frozen green peas - 1/2 cup
- Paneer , cubed 200 gm
- Oil - 4 tbsp
- Ginger - 1 tsp finely chopped
- Garlic - 1 tbsp finely chopped
- Onion - 3 , roughly chopped
- Tomatoes - 2, roughly chopped
- Cumin seeds - 1 tsp
- Turmeric powder - 1/2 tsp
- Chilli powder - 1 tsp
- Cumin powder - 1/2 tsp
- Coriander powder - 1 tsp
- Water - 1 cup
- Whisked yogurt - 1/2 cup
- Garam masala powder - 1/4 tsp
- Salt - to taste
- Coriander leaves - to garnish
Instructions
- In a pan, heat 2 tbsp of oil and add ginger, garlic and onion.
- Add little salt and saute till brown. Add tomato and cook until it is mushy.
- Remove and cool. Grind to a fine paste. Do not add water.
- In the same pan heat 2 tbsp of oil and add cumin seeds.
- When it begins to splutter, add turmeric powder and red chilli powder. Mix well. Heat should be in low flame when you roast masalas.
- Increase the heat to medium high. Add the grind onion-tomato mix and cook for about 3 mins.
- Add coriander powder and cumin powder. Mix well.
- Add 1/2 cup of water. Mix and cook for about 3 mins.
- Reduce the flame to low, add whisked yogurt and stir well. This will ensure that the yogurt doesn't curdle.
- Add 1/2 cup of water, peas and paneer cubes. Add salt, mix well and cook for about 5mins.
- Add garam masala powder, mix and cook further for a couple of minutes.
- Garnish with coriander leaves and serve hot.
