Description

A refreshing Sangria cocktail with winter flavors and spices like cinnamon, cloves and star anise.


Ingredients

For the Holiday Spiced Simple Syrup:

  • 1 cup water
  • ½ cup granulated sugar
  • 2 cinnamon sticks
  • 3 inch strips of orange rind
  • 3 star anise
  • 7 cloves
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract

For the Sangria:

  • 1 cup orange juice
  • 2 cups red wine
  • Club soda
  • Fruits for garnish – orange, apple, pomegranate and rosemary/mint sprigs

Instructions

  1. In a saucepan, add the ingredients for the simple syrup. Bring to a boil and let it simmer for about 10 minutes.
  2. Remove from heat and let it cool. Strain and discard the solids.
  3. To make the sangria, combine the orange juice, simple syrup and red wine in a pitcher and top with club soda.
  4. Pour into glasses and garnish with fruit and rosemary/mint sprigs before serving.

Notes

You can keep the simple syrup refrigerated for up to two weeks.
