Stir Fried Ivy Gourd | Kovakka Potato Fry

A simple and tasty side dish to rice


  • 1 medium Potato
  • 200 gms Ivy Gourd/Kovakka/Tindora
  • 1/2 + 1/2 tsp Turmeric powder
  • 1 tbsp Coconut oil
  • 1 tsp Mustard seeds
  • 2 sprigs of Curry leaves
  • Salt, to taste
  • Water, to cook potatoes


  1. Slice the potatoes and Ivy Gourd into thin strips, like french fries.
  2. Cook the potatoes until 3/4th done in little water.
  3. Add a little salt and turmeric powder too. Strain and keep aside.
  4. In a pan, add coconut oil and when hot, add mustard seeds.
  5. When it pops, add curry leaves.
  6. To this, add cooked potatoes and ivy gourd.
  7. Season and add a little turmeric powder too.
  8. Mix well and let it cook for about 5-7 minutes until the vegetables are done.
  9. Serve as side-dish to rice.
