Who Am I?

I truly believe that cooking is a life skill and a simple, home-cooked meal brings people together.

Cooking at home doesn’t have to be complicated. “But don’t you share authentic Indian recipes on your blog?”, you may ask. Yes, I do.

I am here to bust the myth that Indian cooking is hard. Here, you will also find all sorts of foods– from healthy low-carb Keto recipes to comfort food and indulgent desserts to cocktails and mocktails.

ツ ✿ Hello and Namastey… I’m Shalini ツ ✿ and welcome to
Something’s Cooking.

I’m a passionate blogger, wife to a handsome soldier, and mom to a two-year-old Golden Retriever. When I’m not cooking up a storm, you can find me with a book in hand, sipping a cup of coffee (or Martinis, maybe?) and pampering Mufasa, my doggo.

I come from a family of fantastic cooks. I’m a self-taught/mom-taught/dad-taught/grandma-taught with no formal culinary training unless cooking a five-course meal for five to six people almost every week is considered one.

I’m here to share healthy, affordable, family-friendly, delectable recipes, all mastered in my kitchen.

About Something’s Cooking

I started blogging to record the recipes I tried in my kitchen. I was a newlywed who realized that her husband is a complete foodie, just like her. Furthermore, I was married to the Army family where food is an integral part of socializing. Oh, I knew then, I had to up my game.

Last but definitely not the least!

This space is for you.

Yes, you dear soon-to-be bride or newly-wed who is afraid to mess up their scullery.

I was overjoyed when on my Wedding day, my Mom gifted me with 5 ledger books full of cut-out recipes from the magazines she had carefully kept safe all these years.

This space is something like that! You can visit this space to know the basics of cooking and recipes of some simple, quick, easy-to-make foods.

I loved that movie, “Julie & Julia!” Do you like Julia Child’s book, “The Joy of Cooking?” My mother gave me that when I graduated from college. Also, when I got married, my mom gave me a recipe box and everyone that came to my wedding shower included a recipe! I haven’t had a lot of time to cook because I have three busy kids and work full time (also in IT) but I am starting to experiment more. I look forward to checking out your blog! 🙂
