Matar Paneer or Paneer Matar Masala is one of the most popular vegetarian dishes of North India which is served with naan, rotis and rice. Matar is the hindi name for peas and paneer is the Indian cottage cheese. Matar Paneer is a delicious mix of paneer pieces and green peas simmered in a mildly spicy onion-tomato gravy. It is an irresistibly tasty curry which is healthy too.
If you ask me what are the five things that’s always present in my refrigerator, I would say milk, eggs, bread, paneer and tomatoes. That said, I can quickly whip up a Paneer curry and Jeera Rice when I have unexpected guests at home. I love fresh as well as frozen green peas. It is good in making pulaos too.
This recipe is naturally gluten-free and you can totally make it vegan if you substitute the paneer for tofu and the yogurt for coconut milk.
