Jeera Rice is one of the most popular and commonly prepared flavored rice in North India. It is prepared by cooking basmati rice with cumin seeds or jeera and other mild spices. It can be prepared in a few minutes and I should say, that there is no curry that wouldn’t go well with this.
Whether it is Dal Tadka or Butter Chicken, Jeera Rice jibe well with any Indian gravy. It is also called Jeera Pulao and can be made in a jiffy. So if you have unexpected guests at home and you don’t want to serve that plain steamed rice, this is a smart option. It totally elevates the taste to another level.
Jeera Rice is prepared in every household in North India and I too cook it as a simple alternative every other day. I pair it with Dal Tadka and pappad or a chicken curry at times.
It can be prepared in two ways:
- Tempering the cooked rice with spices and cumin seeds or
- Pressure cooker method where the spices and cumin seeds are sauteed in ghee first and then the rice is cooked along with it.
Here, I am presenting to you Jeera Rice prepared in a pressure cooker. I prefer this method as it helps the rice in imbibing the flavors of whole spices.
