Mohabbat Ka Sharbat is a refreshing drink with the flavors of watermelon and rose syrup. Popular in Old Delhi, it is served during Ramadan in the streets of Jama Masjid and is also ideal for beating the summer heat.

I had a huge watermelon at home and was wondering what to prepare out of it. The usual Watermelon Juice, Mojito, or Watermelon Slushie wasn’t appealing to me now, and I already had some Watermelon Popsicles made for the dogs.

That’s when I remembered this beautiful drink called Pyar Mohabbat Ka Sharbat from my trip to Delhi, about two years ago. Thankfully, I had all the ingredients in the pantry, thanks to the unforgiving summer sun in Kerala, I have made it my mission to try out and bring to you easy summer drinks this month.

Mohabbat Ka Sharbat is an exceptional summer drink with the goodness of watermelon, rose syrup, chilled milk, and ice cubes. You may also try this recipe with rooh afza if you do not have rose syrup available.

This stunning pink-colored drink is popular in the streets of Old Delhi or Puraani Dilli, thanks to Pyaar Mohabbat Sharbat wala shop opposite Jama Masjid where the owner Nawab Qureshi sells this drink for a meager 10 rupees, a glass. The name justifies the drink, I believe, which is packed with loads of love and goodness.

My husband and I were visiting a friend during Ramadan and it was he who introduced us to this drink at the time of Iftar. Oo, I have never been so grateful!

Today I made Mohabbat Ka Sharbat and my sister loved it! I am going to make it every now and then because it is ideal to serve during summer evenings. This Sharbat is also quick and easy to make and you can create your own love potion by introducing ingredients of your choice – mint leaves, semolina or vermicelli, sabja seeds or falooda black seeds, tutti fruity, jelly cubes, or dry fruits.

You may also top it with a scoop of vanilla icecream.

Love love.

To make Mohabbat Ka Sharbat, add milk, watermelon juice, rose syrup, powdered sugar, cubed watermelon, and ice cubes in a bowl and mix well. Remove the seeds from watermelon slices before making the juice and while making the sherbet.

Serve in a glass, top it with more watermelon cubes, and dried rose petals. Serve immediately or chill in the refrigerator for later.

You may use rooh afza if the rose syrup is not available. Powdered sugar and dried rose petals are optional.

It is best if the drink is served immediately. But you may also chill in the refrigerator for a couple of hours. Mix well before serving.
