Watermelon Slushie is an easy, sugar-free cold refreshing three-ingredient summer drink that can help beat the heat. Kid-friendly, this is perfect for warm-weather sipping. Here are three ways to make watermelon slushie, including a cocktail for you.

I have be eating watermelons like crazy the last few weeks because it is so light and refreshing. However, it was getting a little boring and monotonous chomping on simple chopped up watermelon cubes. I wanted to amp up this basic fruit but with a quick and easy dish.

With no added sugar, the whole family including kids can enjoy this slushie. It is easy to throw together without the hassle of an icecream churner.

So here are three ways to make Watermelon Slushie – an easy method, a kid-friendly sweeter version and a slushie cocktail.

What Do You Need to Make Watermelon Slushie

To make a watermelon slushie, all you need are three ingredients. Yes, you heard that right!

  • Watermelon
  • Lime juice
  • Mint leaves

That’s it!

How to Make This Super Easy, Healthy Watermelon Slushie

I love the idea of frozen watermelon drinks because it is sweet (you just have to pick the right ones) and the texture is almost like a mixture of granita and juice.

Deseed and cut the watermelon into cubes. Freeze them for three to four hours, best overnight. Defrost for about ten minutes before making slushie.

Blend the watermelon cubes with lime juice and mint leaves. Serve cold.

Watermelon Slushie for Kids and Toddlers

I understand that summer can be hectic with a lot of to-do lists and even a summer bucket list, especially this year with the quarantine and lockdown. Therefore, I do not want to add anything more to that overcrowded to-do list but trust me, this slushie is worth the last minute addition.

A different recipe for the slush for kids? Not really. I am giving you another variant of making watermelon slushies, of course, without refined sugar.

Still, keeping it three-ingredient, substitute mint leaves with honey or maple syrup.

These natural sweeteners will make this slushie an even better and perfect sweet treat for your kids this summer.

Another Method to Make Watermelon Slushie

Do you have a little more time in your hands? Here’s another method to make watermelon slushie which is more like a granita – coarser than the first method.

In this method, we blend the ingredients first, and then shallow freeze the mixture. Every other hour, using a fork, scrape the frozen ice into slush and wait for it to freeze again. As always keep the mixture in room temperature for a couple of minutes so that it is easy for you to scrape.

Repeat the process of re-scraping and re-freezing for four to six more hours, scoop into a glass, and serve cold.

Allow your kids to join in because, trust me, there is a lot of scraping to be done.

What another recipe now?

Prepare the watermelon slush using any of the above methods and add a shot of vodka to it. Done!

P:S: Please keep this batch of Vodka Slushie out of your children’s reach.

I hope I have convinced you enough to make this recipe this summer.

Description

Here are three ways to make a Watermelon Slushie this summer using only three ingredients!

Ingredients

Scale
  • 750 gms Watermelon cubes, frozen
  • Juice of 1 Lime
  • A handful of Mint leaves

For Method 2:

  • 2–3 tbsp Honey or Maple Syrup

For making Watermelon Shushie Cocktail

  • A couple of Vodka shots

Instructions

  1. Deseed and cut the watermelon into cubes.
  2. For making watermelon slushie using the first method, freeze them for three to four hours, best overnight. Defrost for about ten minutes before making slushie.
  3. Blend the watermelon cubes with lime juice and mint leaves. You shouldn’t blend it too much to make it all the way liquidy or watery. A few pulse blend will be enough to retain its coarse texture.
  4. Serve cold.
  5. To make the slushie using an alternate method, after cutting the watermelon into cubes, blend the watermelon with lime juice and honey or maple syrup. Make sure it is liquidy this time.
  6. Pour it into a 9×9 or 9×13 baking dish or a flat utensil. Freeze it for an hour.
  7. Defrost for a couple of minutes after an hour and using a fork, scrape the frozen slush.
  8. Repeat the process for about 6 hours and then scoop into a bowl and serve cold.
  9. To make the cocktail, make the slushie using method 1 or 2.
  10. Add a couple of vodka shots to the mixture and serve chilled.
